Friday Night at the Louvre

The minute we found out the Louvre was free for people under 26 on Friday nights, Angelina and I knew we were going to jump at the chance the second we could. Who doesn't want to spend Friday partying with Mona Lisa?

Our friend Mark is currently staying with us (if you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll remember Mark is the fellow traveler we met while on a ferry from Ireland to Wales. We ended up traveling together through London, Brussels, Bruges, and Amsterdam) so the three of us went together and met up with one of Mark's friends to enjoy the night.

(Having some bonding time with the pyramid)

We stopped by all the biggest works first, then all of the smaller, lesser known ones. However, the Louvre is absolutely massive. We spent about 3 hours there and didn't see even close to half of what it had to offer.

(The crazy tourist stampede around the Mona Lisa)

To be honest, my favorite part of the Louvre wasn't actually it's contents - it's the building itself! The Louvre is so grand yet stunningly intricate; the architecture and decor would be enough to admire alone. Obviously it's the art that adds the character, but my god - after 3 hours of walking around I was seriously mentally exhausted. Brain overload.

I definitely want to go back at least once more, but I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't. We all agreed that there just too much art! It's overwhelming and it takes the charm away. Still absolutely worth a visit though, even if its just to see the building!
